Short version: Chef Planner stores your recipes on your device. We do not sell your data, run ads, or track you across other apps. The only data that leaves your device is what you explicitly send for AI recipe extraction (a photo, a link or a page you choose) and what is needed for in-app purchases.
Who is responsible
The data controller for Chef Planner is Antoniu Stratulat, reachable at tonylaurnic@gmail.com. You can write to this address for any privacy request.
What we process
Chef Planner is designed to work primarily on-device. Here is what is processed and why:
- Recipes, meal plans and settings — stored locally on your device only.
- Photos — stored locally. Sent only when you choose to scan a recipe with the camera or from your gallery.
- Links you import — when you paste a link, share it to Chef Planner from another app (e.g. Safari, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram) or pick a page with the in-app search, that link and the publicly available content of the page or video are sent to Google Gemini to extract the recipe. Nothing is sent until you start the import.
- Clipboard — when you open “Add recipe”, the app checks your clipboard on the device to suggest a link you may have copied. The clipboard content is never stored or sent anywhere unless you tap that suggestion to import it.
- In-app search — the built-in browser loads Google Search and YouTube directly from Google. Your searches and the pages you visit are handled by Google under its own privacy policy and cookie choices; Chef Planner does not record your queries or browsing history. Cookies stored by the built-in browser stay on your device and can be deleted at any time in Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data.
- Free trial & daily limits — the date your free trial started and how many AI recipes you added today are stored in your device's secure Keychain, so they are kept if you reinstall the app. They never leave your device and contain nothing that identifies you. This storage is strictly necessary to provide the trial and fair-use limits.
- App integrity check — Firebase App Check uses Apple App Attest / Google Play Integrity to confirm requests come from the genuine app, to prevent abuse of the AI service. It does not identify you personally.
- Purchase information — handled by RevenueCat and the App Store / Google Play. We receive only your subscription status and an anonymous app user ID, not payment details.
Legal basis (GDPR)
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — processing the photos and links you ask us to turn into recipes, and managing your subscription.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — protecting the AI service from fraud and abuse through App Check.
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) — keeping purchase records where tax law requires it (handled by the app stores).
Permissions we request
Camera
Photo library
Clipboard (paste)
Share sheet
Internet
Camera and photo library access is used only to add recipe photos or scan a recipe. The share sheet extension only passes the link you share to the app — it stores and sends nothing by itself. Internet access is used for AI extraction, importing recipes from links, the in-app search and processing subscriptions.
Third-party services & processors
- Google (Firebase AI Logic / Gemini, Firebase App Check) — processes the photos, links and page content you send for recipe extraction. Under Google's paid API terms this data is not used to train Google's models. See Google Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy.
- Google Search & YouTube — pages you open in the in-app search are served directly by Google as an independent controller. See Google Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — manages subscriptions and purchase validation. See RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — handle payment processing.
We do not use analytics, advertising SDKs, tracking or crash-reporting services.
International transfers
Google and RevenueCat may process data in the United States or other countries outside the EU/EEA. These transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Data storage & retention
All recipes, photos, and settings are stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. We do not operate servers that store your recipes, photos, links or search history. Content sent for AI extraction is processed to produce the result and is not kept by us; Google may retain it temporarily for abuse monitoring as described in its terms.
Children's privacy
Chef Planner is not directed at children under 16 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, e.g. 14 in Italy). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Since your recipes live on your device, you can export them at any time (Settings → Backup) and delete them by removing them in the app or uninstalling it. For any request, email tonylaurnic@gmail.com — we reply within one month. For purchase-related data, you can also contact RevenueCat or the relevant app store.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, such as the Italian Garante per la protezione dei dati personali or the authority of the EU country where you live.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
